An incident transpired when Muhammad Ali’s daughters arrived at his home wearing clothes that were quite revealing.
Here is the story as told by one of his daughters:
“When we finally arrived, the chauffeur escorted my younger sister, Laila, and me up to my father’s suite. As usual, he was hiding behind the door waiting to scare us. We exchanged many hugs and kisses as we could possibly give in one day.
My father took a good look at us. Then he sat me down on his lap and said something that I will never forget. He looked me straight in the eyes and said, “Hana, everything that God made valuable in the world is covered and hard to get to.
Where do you find diamonds? Deep down in the ground, covered and protected.
Where do you find pearls? Deep down at the bottom of the ocean, covered up and protected in a beautiful shell.
Where do you find gold? Way down in the mine, covered over with layers and layers of rock. You’ve got to work hard to get to them.”
He looked at me with serious eyes. “Your body is sacred. You’re far more precious than diamonds and pearls, and you should be covered too.”
“…She is worth for more than precious jewels” (Proverbs 31:10)
I recently came across this story and was mind blown. How much do we really value ourselves? To just think, we are far more precious than these jewels! I started thinking as I read this and realized that if we don’t even value ourselves as much as – if not more than – these jewels, we’re nothing more than another rock on the ground. Go outside and see how many rocks you come across. You get a dime a dozen! There’s nothing spectacular about a simple rock, but diamonds, pearls and gold – now that’s not something you just so happen to stumble across everyday.
I don’t think it’s necessary to walk around with trash bag clothes or looking unkept, but really ladies, know your worth! Don’t just be another rock on the ground – everybody has been there and seen that. Be a woman that a man must work hard to find – whether he comes, that’s not our end goal – because anyone can just go outside and pick up a rock. You don’t need any special equipment or a detailed plan to find a simple rock. But it takes time, strategic planning and certain equipment to go into the depths of the ocean to find a pearl. Yet, you are more precious than such!
Don’t be a hard rock when you’re really a gem
